Gesture Recognition using Magic Ring Sensor

In today’s computer era, people used computers for communication purposes. Gesture is one of the most powerful and severe way of communication between computer and human. Gesture Recognition is one type of non-verbal Communication using fingers, palm, face, arms etc. There are multiple techniques for recognizing the gestures. This paper presents a hand gesture interface for executing the commands using dynamic time warping technique. But it is working on only two similar length sequences because of Accelerometer. For large number of gestures, this system does not work well. These limitations can be solved by proposed work.

An Empirical Analysis of Security Issues in Cloud Environment

Cloud Computing is a flexible, cost-effective, and proven delivery platform for providing business or consumer IT services over the Internet. However, cloud Computing presents an added level of risk because essential services are often outsourced to a third party, which makes it harder to maintain data security and privacy, support data and service availability, and demonstrate compliance. Cloud Computing leverages many technologies (SOA, virtualization, Web 2.0); it also inherits their security issues, which we discuss here, identifying the main vulnerabilities in this kind of systems and the most important threats found in the literature related to Cloud Computing and its environment as well as to identify and relate vulnerabilities and threats with possible solutions.

Analysis of Maximum power Point Tracking in Solar Photovoltaic System

This paper presents a grid synchronization technique based on adaptive notch twist for SPV (Solar Photovoltaic) system along with MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) techniques. An efficient grid synchronization technique offers capable detection of various components of grid signal like phase and frequency. It also acts as a obstruction for harmonics and other turbulence in grid signal. A reference phase signal synchronized with the grid voltage is provided by the grid synchronization technique to standardize the system with grid codes and power quality standards. Hence, grid synchronization unit plays important role for grid connected SPV systems. As the output of the PV array is variable in nature with the meteorological parameters like irradiance, temperature and wind etc. In order to maintain a constant DC voltage at VSC (Voltage Source Converter) input, MPPT control is required to track the maximum power point from PV array. In this work, a variable step size P & O (Perturb and Observe) MPPT technique with DC/DC boost converter has been used at first stage of the system.

Optimal Trajectory Planning for the Design Optimization of the Robotic Arm

This paper presents a synthetical approach for the design optimization and the trajectory of the robotic arm, angular velocity and acceleration of the robotic arm. The optimization of the robotic arm trajectory is a frequent design problem. Because of the complexity of this task in the past, many of the proposed approaches entailed only a suboptimal solution. The main problem in trajectory generation and tracking of robotic arm motions is to plan the trajectory and compute the required joint angles. Inverse kinematics modeling is usually adopted, though sometimes other approaches are needed due to the lack of reliability and accuracy of analytical methods. Due to that reason, previously, several authors have used evolutionary algorithms. Rana and Zalzala (1997) applied EA to the collision-free path planning of the robotic arm. In Garg & Kumar (2002), the formulation and application of Genetic Algorithm and Simulated Annealing for the determination of an optimal trajectory of a multiple robotic configuration is presented.

A Study on the Relationship between Siltation and Flow Parameters of a Typical Alluvial River-Manas, A Tributary of Brahmaputra

Silt is defined as the granular material of size somewhere between sand and clay. Silt may occur as a soil or as sediment mixed with water as known as a suspended load in a body of water such as a river. It may also exist as soil deposited at the bottom of a water body. The natural process of the decay of organisms into the water can lead to the production of silt at the bottom of a river. Silt can be generated in the streams by mining, agriculture and other industries and sewage. Through these study an attempt has been made to record periodical observations of the river Manas, a tributary flowing into the Brahmaputra river, to record its different hydrodynamic properties viz. amount of silt carried, velocity during the period, discharge, cross-sectional properties etc. and to study its various aspects and then recommend some enhancing engineering solutions.

A Novel Hybrid Optimization Algorithm for Optimal Power Flow with Unified Power Flow Controller

This paper introduces Particle Swarm Optimization with Differential Perturbed Velocity (PSO-DV) to solve Optimal Power Flow for non-smooth fuel cost functions with Unified power Flow Controller. The proposed algorithm employs a strongly coupled differential operator borrowed from differential evaluation with velocity upgrade function of particle swarm Optimization. The UPFC is a new device from FACTS technology and has great flexibility in control of voltage magnitudes, angle and impedance of the line simultaneously. In this paper the strategic location of UPFC is found using Fuzzy approach by taking voltage magnitudes and voltage stability index(L-Index) as input parameters where L-Index is a real number which gives fair and consistent results for stability among different methods of voltage stability analysis. The control settings of UPFC are determined by PSO-DV. The IEEE-30 bus system is considered to test the feasibility of the proposed method with two objective functions that reflects fuel cost and fuel cost with valve point loading effects. The results shows the effectiveness of the proposed approach and provides better results compared to the existing results of other OPF methods.

Design and Development of Mono Leaf Spring by using Composite Material (Epoxy-Carbon Fiber)

According to the demand of recent world, the more concentration is on weight reduction in automobiles. The possible weight reductions are wheel assembly, axles, and part of the weight of suspension spring and shock absorbers. The leaf spring accounts for 10-20% of the un-sprung weight. The composite materials made it possible to reduce the weight of machine element without any reduction of the load carrying capacity. Because of composite material's high elastic strain energy storage capacity and high strength-to weight ratio compared with those of steel. FRP spring also have excellent fatigue resistance and durability. But the weight reduction of the leaf spring is achieved not only by material replacement but also by design optimization. Weight reduction has been the focus of automobile manufacturers in the present scenario. The replacement of steel with optimally designed composite leaf spring can provide 75%-78% weight reduction. The material selected is carbon epoxy against conventional steel. The optimization study consists of use of software's such as NASTRAN / ANSYS software. The experimentation on UTM is carried out and results are compared. Moreover, the composite leaf spring has lower stresses compared to steel spring. All these will result in fuel saving which will make countries energy independent because fuel saved is fuel produced.

Finite Element Modelling of Hot Extrusion of TI-6AL-4V Alloy

A finite element (FE) model is developed in this paper for simulating the direct extrusion process of Ti-6Al-4V alloy under isothermal condition. The model takes into account the heat generation due to plastic deformation of the billet as well as the frictional heat in the billet-tool interface. A series of simulations have been conducted to investigate the effect of key process parameters on stress and strain distribution, maximum ram speed and maximum pressure applied to the die. The FE model has been compared with a theoretical model and the results show good correlation in terms of predicting ram load. The developed FE model can be used for investigating direct extrusion and selecting appropriate die design parameters for the process.

Application of Fuzzy and RBF Neural Networks in the Prediction of Distribution of Coal Seams

A prediction approach through fuzzy logic and RBF neural networks were proposed to determine the distribution of coal seam terrains. A triangular fuzzy set was selected as the fuzzification basis for this work. The triangular fuzzy sets was created for each factor involved in the experiment, and are divided according to the levels of factors used in the experiment. The fuzzy membership functions and rule bank were based on observations during cutting experiments using the shearer drum operations and the measurements from the electrical conductance sensor for sensing the variations in the electrical conductance value in the coal mines. Also an efficient output can be obtained by RBF neural network with trained set of data. Then data set training is being done and the mining process can be established.

Importance of Vibration Parameters in Fault Diagnosis and Condition Monitoring of Bearing and Analysis of Wavelets

In this paper, vibration parameters help to detect the faults generally occurred in the bearings for the bearing defect diagnosis. Bearing fault diagnosis is important in condition monitoring of any rotating machine. Early fault detection in machineries can save millions of dollars in emergency maintenance cost. Different techniques are used for fault analysis such as short time Fourier transforms (STFT), Wavelet analysis (WA), spectrum analysis, Model based analysis, etc. This Paper explains the procedure for detecting bearing faults using FFT and by using Wavelet analysis more specifically HAAR wavelet up to two levels of approximations and detail components. The analysis is carried out offline in MATLAB.

Unified Power Flow Controller to Control Reactive Power

The developing countries use thyritor, GTO, IGBT, MOSFET, and many other electronic device. These are use for switching devices because its initial cost is low. The switching device are mechanical and then operating signal are sent to circuit where final control action take place, these are the slow process. Another problem are also associated with mechanical switch that it cannot control frequently[2]. To reduced this problem use in FACTS technology. It is developed in 1990. It can also use series and shunt condition. It is power electronic based and static device such as Thyristors, Gate turn offs(GTO), Insulated gate bipolar transistors(IGBT), Insulated Gate Commutated thyristors (IGCT),they can be controlled very fast as well as different control algorithms adapted to various situations[5]. The FACTS technology is use for controlling the both types of powers and enhancing the usable capacity of present transmission systems[6]. It has increase line capacity .The ability of FACTS controllers to adjust the power system electrical parameters including series and shunt impedances, current, voltage, phase angle, and the damping oscillations etc. The FACTS devices has various power electronics devices [1].

A Comparative Study of Observational Techniques for Assessing Postural Loads in Vegetable Production System in Uttarakhand

Agriculture ranks as one of the most hazardous industry because it is manual labour oriented and agricultural workers are exposed to a variety of hazards that are potentially harmful to the health and well-being. The physical demand of the farm work which ranges from moderate to heavy, often include standing, squatting, bending, reaching, carrying heavy loads and working for long hours may bring certain hazards to the person. Uttarakhand has 1 % share in area and 1% share in total production in India. Among all the vegetable production activities manual transplanting activity is one of the most wearisome and monotonous activity because workers requires to adopt stressful bending posture. The reason being prolonged use of a particular kind of posture, but they were compelled to adopt those postures during work for a long time, which is injurious to them. keeping in mind the research is planned with the following objectives i) To analyze work postures of workers involved in vegetable production To analyze the work posture and discomforts of farm workers REBA (Rapid Entire Body Assessment) and RULA (Rapid Upper Limb Assessment) was used. The present study was carried out in two places i.e. vegetable research center of U.S. Nagar District and Doguda villege of Nainital district of Uttarakhand to assess their work postures. A total sample size of 70 farm workers was taken for data using Purposive and Random sampling without replacement. The postural discomfort analysis revealed pain in different body parts among farm workers for which corrective measures in the near future are required. REBA and RULA suggested action level- Investigate and change soon. Due to long working hours, awkward body postures, repetitive work and physical load there exist a high prevalence of postural discomforts among farm workers. Highest Postural load factor was reported during manual transplanting activities for which workers have adopted bending or semi bending postures respectively.

Improvement of Performance of Load Following controller in a Deregulated Multi Area Hydro Thermal Gas System Employing Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage

This paper aims at investigating the enhancement of performance of load following based Hydro Thermal Gas system under deregulated market applying Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) against uncertainties. SMES device has been modeled and an attempt has been made to incorporate this device in the two area system thus improving the dynamic response of the system. The effect of this device on the system is demonstrated with the help of computer simulations. A systematic method has also been demonstrated for the modeling of this component in the system. Computer simulations reveal that due to the presence of SMES, the dynamic performance of the system in terms of settling time, overshoot and peak time is greatly improved than that of system without SMES.

An Experimental Investigation on Four Stroke CI Engine with Diesel and Bio-Diesel Blend as fuel: Hazelnut

An experimental investigation was carried out to analyze non-edible oils (hazelnut) in blending with normal diesel fuel with approximate proportions of 5%, 10 % , 15%, 20% and 25% by volume in a mono cylinder, four stroke vertical, water cooled, Compression Ignition engine. Experimentation was performed by using the above fuel blends in the compression ignition engine operating at different loads. A comparative analysis was made on the output parameters such as emissions like oxides of nitrogen(NOx), total unburned hydro carbons, oxides of carbon(COx), and partially burned hydro carbons, Brake specific fuel consumption, Brake Thermal Efficiency, smoke density, temperature of exhaust gases, for all blends prepared with bio-fuels mixing with normal diesel fuel at different proportions mentioned above. It was known that engine is giving better performance by using a blend B20 with proportions of 20% hazelnut bio-fuel and 80% conventional diesel fuel without any modifying in design parameters and operating characteristics of the engine. Engine working on bio-diesels blend as fuel are showing considerable reduction in emissions like oxides of carbon and hydro carbons but with marginal increase in oxides of nitrogen without effecting brake thermal efficiency when compared with conventional neat diesel fuel. The corresponding neat diesel fuel operation, the bio-fuel oil blends show decrease in emissions of smoke with marginal increase in NOx with unchanged brake thermal efficiency. Hazelnut bio-diesel having better properties next to diesel fuel in comparison with other bio fuels.

Banana Leaf Disease Identification Technique

There is no machine learning techniques have been used in an attempt to detect diseases in the banana plant such as banana bacterial wilt (BBW) and banana black sigatoka (BBS) that have caused a huge loss to many banana growers. The study investigated various computer vision techniques which led to the development of an approach that consists of four main phases. In phase one, images of Banana leaves were acquired using a standard digital camera. Phase two is the preprocessing phase where resizing and morphological operations occur. Next phase is the segmentation phase which translates RGB(Red Green Blue) image to YCbCr (Luminance Chrominance) color space which is then converted to a gray scale image and finally to a binarized image using Adaptive Contrast Map method. Next is the feature extraction phase where extraction of leaf features like color, texture and, shape occurs. Then comes the prominent phase were classification done Using Support Vector Machine classifier as classifier. Lastly, the performance of the classifier is evaluated to determine whether a leaf is diseased or not.

Clustering protocols have been proved to be one of the energy-efficient protocols in WSN. One of the basic and most popular protocols designed using the clustering approach is the LEACH (Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy). However, LEACH undergoes an issue of bad distribution of cluster heads, which is overcome by implementing a technique of selecting smart cluster head in LEACH known as SCHS (Smart Cluster Head Selection). Also another clustering protocol HEED (Hybrid Energy Efficient Distributed) which follows the principle of LEACH is considered for the study purpose. In this paper, a thorough analysis of three clustering protocols was carried out by keeping the network parameters same so as to conclude which protocol amongst the three utilizes the minimum energy and prolongs the network lifetime.

DAM BREAK-A Review

The Dams are essential structures compiling numerous advantages for the development and sustenance of society, on the contrary breaking of dam can prove to be fatal in the same proportion. The study of dam breach and modelling of dam break scenario thus becomes very important for mapping of floods and preparation of emergency action plans. Failure of a dam differs from one type of dam to other. Dam failure may be broadly classified as instantaneous and gradual. The masonry or rigid concrete dams fail instantly due to failure of monolith on the other hand the earthen dam fail gradually by erosion due to overtopping over crest and piping failure beneath the dam structure. With the advancement in computational techniques various types of software are now available which enables simulation of dam break scenarios and help in preparation of inundation maps. This paper reviews the study of dam break scenario and important types of dam breach parameters. Various guidelines regarding dam breach parameters have been compiled and the capabilities of different types of software available for simulation of dam break scenarios have also been discussed.

An Introduction to the Digital Watermarking

Digital watermarking is the process of embedding a message pertaining to the digital content itself and contains information about its author, buyer etc. It is same as that of steganography; only the difference is in the process of hiding the information. In digital watermarking the information is hided pertaining to the digital content itself whereas the message embedded in a digital content in the case of steganography is the secret message that has to be transmitted over the communication channel. Hence digital watermarking can be used for many applications like ownership assertion, copy right prevention, fingerprinting, data authentication (medical field) etc.

Impact of Mueusems in Cultural Scoiety - A Case Study

Museums with strong brands or those that inhabit iconic buildings are increasingly used as cultural motifs in the destination-marketing strategies of public tourist bodies. Recent examples include the use of the British Museum in Visit Britain's Culture is Great campaign, or the Turner Contemporary as a symbol of Margate's brand enhancement. The latest figures from the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) once again underlined the importance of museums to the visitor economy. Meanwhile, the new Arts Council England and Visit England partnership, which aims to help destinations develop their cultural tourism, provides an opportunity for museums to take a strategic lead in this area. But could it also result in greater reliance on marketing-orientated approaches that might not benefit the entire museum sector.

Use of Corrosion Inhibitors for Steel Protection in Cementitious Composites-A Review

Steel reinforced cementitious composite is one of the most commonly used materials in construction industries. This is mainly because of its excellent mechanical properties that can withstand various types of loading conditions and low cost. But, the corrosion of embedded steel reinforcement is a main problem associated with steel reinforced cementitious composite because it shortens the life of structure. The most important causes of corrosion initiation of steel reinforcement are the ingress of carbon dioxide and chloride ions to the surface of steel. Though, the corrosion initiation of embedded steel can be delayed using corrosion inhibitors. However, after starting of corrosion, the effectiveness of corrosion inhibitor was reported to be reduced significantly and propagation of corrosion becomes more rapidly. Generally, the negative effects of the corrosion inhibitors on properties of cementitious composite were reported to be negligible. Also, the information regarding the long-term performance of the corrosion inhibitors in actual practice are very limited. Various investigations reported several types of corrosion inhibitors in order to control the corrosion of steel that were also used in construction industries commercially. However, some of the corrosion inhibitors were found to be poisonous and harmful to the environment. Therefore, there is need for more research on the corrosion inhibitors in order to find out the suitable inhibitor with low cost and without side effects to the environment.

Natural Tragedy Commendation Hasty Alert Using Tweet Events Over Distributed Processing Framework

An Event processing is the scheme of streams that related with information (data) about things that happen (events), and deriving a conclusion from tweet in real time. Twitter is a social network platform that consists of billions of users all over the world where people collaborate and Share information related to real world events. An important characteristic of Twitter is its real-time nature and also investigate the real-time interaction of events such as cyclones in Twitter and propose a framework to monitor tweets to detect a target event. These large scales tweet data processing are done by placing those tweet events in a distributed system. The server processes the tweet queue and executes the operations based on it. An devise classifier of tweets based on features such as the keywords in a tweet, the number of character, the number of words, and their context. The status update which almost pinpoints what is happening in and around an individual user and also tracks the user location. This small content with real world information when processed with some statistical tool may assist us to predict a live occurring event (e.g. cyclone) and regard each twitter user as a feeler and apply particle filtering, which are widely used for location estimation. Tweet in the message queue is done by Apache Kafka which is a distributed publish-subscribe messaging queue system. These frameworks will parallelize our computations over a cluster of machines.

Placement Analysis using Data Mining

Education data mining is one of the growing fields of the present time as it grows many issues to improve system comes in the notice one of them is improvement of the placement. Placement is a very important issue for any educational organization. Every organization wants to improve its placement. Success of any educational institute is measured by the placed student of the organization. This paper actually deals with the application of neural network to the educational data to improve placement. In today’s world all organization faces one of the big problems is recruit right candidate for the suitable position, Organization ready to invest a huge amount to recruitment process but till now they failed to recruit. In this paper, we apply the data mining techniques for placement prediction. To predict the performance of a student’s is the great concern for the organization, as they seek knowledgeable, talented and qualified professionals to need to fill up their positions. According to the survey, the corporate companies spend a sum of 1800crores for choosing candidates to fill up their vacancies. The Majority of the companies recruiting the candidates via on-campus recruitment and to fill up them positions. Our method is very useful for corporate companies, consultancies. This method is the best way to get the right candidate at the right time in the corporate world. The industry gets the best talent candidates from different institutes/universities, and the students also get a chance to kick start their career with some of the best organization. But the students facing some difficulties in getting placements. To overcome the problem we apply the Improved Decision Tree classification algorithms on these data, we have predicted which students placed in Recruitment Drives. Corporate companies need only knowledgeable and skilled persons for the vacant position. To find that particularly skilled person there's a question that how can the companies identify them. In order to overcome this problem in this paper, we provide a complete solution to the recruitment process. Actual challenges appear when they will develop real-world software. Training develops confidence in whatever School, Colleges, Universities will train. But all corporate expect skilled, confidence with active persons. We are giving to find the right candidate for the right job in this development. After recruiting employees corporate feel much confident about their development. So as much as possible, clear them confusions and get new ideas about their project training and become confident about their work.
