Cervical cancer is a major public health problem, being the third most common neoplasm in women in Brazil, according to INCA (2022). An ecological study carried out between 2013 and 2022 with data from SIH-SUS, SIM, SISCOLO and SISCAN analyzed the epidemiological profile of the disease, where cervical cancer was the 5th most recurrent between 2013 and 2022, with 24,599 deaths, representing 12.12% of cancer deaths, behind only breast and lung cancer. The study also revealed that the Northeast had the highest number of preventive screening exams, followed by the South. In addition, the increase in cervical cancer cases accompanies advancing age, with the highest peak between 40 and 49 years of age (24.59%). The high mortality from cervical cancer is associated with the significant number of abnormal results in preventive exams. These data highlight the need for more effective and specific intervention measures, considering the social and cultural characteristics of the affected populations. Raising awareness of the importance of screening is essential to reduce the incidence and mortality from the disease. |
