Abstract:

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in demand for collagen biostimulators in aesthetic medicine. Collagen biostimulators are compounds that increase the production of collagen in the skin, improving the appearance and reducing the signs of aging. Botulinum toxin is one of the most popular and consumed aesthetic procedures worldwide, being widely used to reduce expression lines and facial wrinkles. The combination of filler with hyaluronic acid, botulinum toxin and collagen biostimulators has been frequently used in facial harmonization, providing more natural and lasting results. A possible hypothesis about the drug interaction between botulinum toxin and collagen biostimulators, when used in the same session, is that the combination of these treatments may interfere with each other's effectiveness. Thus, the objective of this bibliographical review was to evaluate the available studies on the drug interaction between botulinum toxin and collagen biostimulators when used in the same session. In this sense, it was observed that the combined use of botulinum toxin and collagen biostimulators requires caution and attention when choosing the application technique and the period of use of botulinum toxin in relation to collagen biostimulators. The interaction between the procedures due to their mechanisms of action and inflammatory stimuli is evident.
