Abstract:

This study aims to map tourism startups in Brazil with a focus on tourist service and convenience, as well as identify the intellectual property of their brands at the National Institute of Intellectual Property – INPI. For this purpose, an exploratory and descriptive methodology was used, carried out in two stages: 1. Survey of tourism startups with a focus on tourist services and convenience in the database of the Brazilian Association of Startups – ABSTARTUPS; Innovation Challenges in Tourism and 100 Open Startups (the network formed by open startups) and 2. Search for trademark registration at the National Institute of Industrial Property – INPI. The main results show that of the 175 startups mapped, 36% are related to accommodation reservations, ticket purchases and transport; 21% related to tourist information and itineraries; 20% related to tourist events and activities; 10% related to communities and 13% other services (real-time weather and traffic, currency exchange, etc.). And that 75% are concentrated between: São Paulo (37%), Minas Gerais (17%), Rio de Janeiro (9%), Rio Grande do Sul (7%) and Santa Catarina (6%). Regarding the brand's intellectual property, 39% of the 175 tourism startups made a deposit at Inpi, of which 31% have active registrations.
